Leg Penetration Analysis (LPA) and Site-Specific Assessment (SSA) are required to be performed for a jack-up as part of location approval before it can go to a specific location. It presents the suitability of a particular jack-up to perform planned operations at a specific site. LPA and SSA are performed in accordance with the ISO-19905-1:2016.

Punch-through is a sudden and uncontrolled penetration of the spudcan often causing structural damage of the unit. It may occur when the load becomes equal to bearing capacity for the spudcan while within a soil layer having relatively higher bearing capacity than the soil underlying that layer.
